Origin of Phrases - A
At the end of my rope
Meaning: To have run out of patience, or out of alternatives.
Example: I am at the end of my rope with this job, I quit.
Origin: This evolved from the phrase "at the end of my tether". Such as a dog or a horse might be tied or tethered. The old phrase meant to convey a sense of self restraint, while the new suggests that one has reached or exceeded one's defined boundaries.
